Problem: The clutch wheel at the bottom on the jug for a household mixer, Braun MX2050, is broken.
Symptom: One or more teeth (of six) on the plastic clutch wheel are broken.
Procedure:
1. Remove the plastic clutch wheel. This is very simple. Just hold the blades with one hand while twisting the clutch wheel with your other hand. The thread is right handed. It is easier to get a good grip if you remove the blade from the jug. You may also need to use a pair of pliers etc. Note: Make sure to keep especially the square nut but also the little washer underneath the cluch wheel. You will need these parts when re-assembling.
2. It is probably quite dirty underneath the clutch wheel. Now is a good time to clean it if you want to.
3. Get replacements. Yes, I mean replacements (plural). These little plastic things are obviously a weak part in the design (together with the engine clutch) and over time they are higly likely to be the parts which break first and more than once! However, it shall be noted that the rest of the blender is quite robust and of ggod quality. therefore, if you get some extra spares you will probably be able to enjoy your blender for many years.
First, let’s identify the blender properly.
It is quite obvious that Braun MX2050 = Braun 4184 .
At the time of writing, replacements are quite easy to find. I decided to get them from a company in Spain, here. Their delivery was quick and I am happy with them. However, beware of the cost for delivery. This applies to any purchase. In this case I added a few other things they had and I needed so in the end the cost for delivery was quite reasonable.
The clutch wheels were delivered in a little bag and they even seem to be Braun original parts – very good!
4. Mount the little copper washer onto the threaded screw. Insert the square nut into a replacement clutch wheel and finally mount the clutch wheel on the blade.
Note: If the washer looks thin: replace it! Otherwise, there might be too much friction which most likely will result in the motor having to work harder and wear down quicker and while doing that it will exert a greater torque on the newly replaced clutch wheel which then might break very quickly.
Enjoy your blender again!
